1// Create Website Email Address
You might be tempted to just create a new Gmail or Outlook email address for your blog and call it a day. Don’t do it, mama! That just screams unprofessionalism and your future email autoresponder just won’t accept it.
Convertkit and Mailchimp require you to have a business email address so that your dream customers actually receive your emails. Otherwise, it’ll just go right to spam! You need to set up a business email address through your hosting account.
How to Create a Business Email Address
These instructions are for Siteground but are very similar if you use Bluehost.
- Go to your cPanel in Siteground
- Find the mail section and select “Email Accounts”
- Enter your business email name, password, and select ‘Create Account.’
Voila, you’ve just set up your professional email address for your blog.
2// Create Pillar Blog Content
Woohoo! It’s now time to write some content. Before you launch your blog to the world it’s important to actually have some articles.
Ideally, you want to have 10-15 blog posts published before you start driving traffic. Remember the purpose of your blog is to help your dream customer. You can’t do that if there isn’t anything to read.
If you’re an overachiever, then go for 4-5 posts per blog category. That way you can interlink your content and your dream customer will have plenty of opportunities to stay longer on your blog.
Recommended Blog Pages
You’re also going to need to create some pages. Here is a list of pages that all blogs should have:
- About me page
- Contact Page
According to Amira at A Self Guru, it’s illegal to copy another website’s legal information. After learning this I promptly purchased her legal bundle that includes all the mandatory legal pages for your website.
That one time purchase was well worth the peace of mind knowing that all my blogs are protected properly.
How to Create Pages & Posts
- Go to your WordPress Dashboard and select Pages or Post
- Select add new then write your content
- Select ‘Save Draft’ to save or Publish to make it live
3// Start Building Your Email List
Building your email list should be a priority from day 1 of your business. I see so many new entrepreneurs rely solely on social media and completely ignore having an email list. Well, guess what…
…You don’t own Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram or Twitter. So if one of those platforms shuts down your account, which happens all the time, you have absolutely no way to contact your dream customers.
For bloggers I highly recommend Convertkit. It is a company that was created by a blogger for bloggers so they understand our needs. However, I know that starting a new business can be expensive. To save money you can start with a free email platform.
I know many recommend starting with MailChimp because they’re free for the first 2000 subscribers. But Mailchimp has since changed. You’re only allowed one list, which makes funnel building with multiple freebies impossible.
So, for new bloggers I recommend Mailerlite. They have more advanced automation than Mailchimp and they are free for the first 1000 subscribers.
4// Sign-up for Social Media Accounts
Nowadays, social media is such an integral part of any business. You should create an account on all the platforms your dream customer hangs out.
But…only focus on one or two in the beginning.
Once you master those and have your automation setup then you can become active on another platform. Remember mama you’re at the beginning stages of your business and nobody got time to be online all the hours of the day!
Here are some tools that can help you automate your social media content:
5// Brainstorm Monetization Strategy
Finally, it’s time to learn how to monetize your blog. Because hey I’m sure you’re not just blogging for shits and giggles right! You want to make some money!!
Here are a few ways that you can make money blogging:
- Affiliate marketing
- Sponsored Posts
- Digital products
- Coaching or consulting
Just like with social media all the choices can seem overwhelming. But this is more of a personal choice. The majority of bloggers I know monetize with ads and affiliate marketing. I’ve chosen not to have ads on this blog and focus more on other ways to monetize but I do have them on my other one. Start with one or two income options…master them then add something else.
